SLC Airport Pickup & Drop-Off: Park & Wait Guide

For a private-car pickup at Salt Lake City International Airport, follow the ground-level pickup route. For a departing passenger, stay right on Terminal Drive for the elevated drop-off roadway to Level 3. Arriving early? Use the free Park & Wait lot until your passenger confirms they are outside. SLC’s official directions show the roadway split.

Use the official terminal map to locate your meeting point. A terminal level, parking-garage level, and aircraft gate are different things. When texting directions, say which one you mean.

How to use SLC’s Park & Wait lot

This is the option to look for if you searched for the SLC airport cell phone lot. It gives you somewhere to pause before collecting a passenger.

Our suggested pickup sequence:

Check the flight before leaving home. Agree whether you will meet inside or at the curb.
Follow airport signs to Park & Wait if your passenger is still on the plane or collecting bags.
Ask the passenger to send the level and the nearest visible door or zone marker once outside.
Confirm that everyone and all bags are together before leaving the lot.
Send your car’s color and model so the passenger can spot you.

The lot’s flight display can help, but a message from the person you are collecting is more useful than a landing notification. Walking from the gate, a delayed suitcase, or a bathroom stop can change the pickup time.

Follow the airport’s idle-free policy while waiting.

Can you wait at the arrivals curb?

No. SLC permits active loading and unloading only. Waiting and parking in front of the terminal are prohibited, and unattended cars can be towed. These rules come from the airport’s travel tips.

If you arrive at the curb before your passenger, follow traffic staff’s directions and return to the waiting lot as directed. Do not leave the car to search inside. For a traveler who needs help handling bags or finding the exit, meeting inside may be the easier plan.

SLC publishes a 13-foot clearance limit for the terminal pickup roadway. Check your vehicle’s total height, including anything on its roof, before approaching.

Dropping someone off for a flight

Before reaching the terminal, have the traveler check their airline’s departure and check-in information. Keep travel documents and hand luggage accessible so they do not need to unpack at the curb.

Leave enough time for check-in, security, and the walk to the gate after the drive ends. SLC’s travel tips recommend arriving two hours before a domestic departure and three hours before an international departure, with extra time for passengers who need assistance. Follow your airline’s specific deadlines.

Meeting family or a returning missionary inside

Choose an indoor landmark before the flight. For a domestic arrival, the greeting room is a useful meeting point after the passenger leaves security. For an international arrival, confirm whether the traveler will exit customs at SLC or arrive on a domestic connection; do not assume the same meeting point works for both.

With a larger family, agree who is greeting the traveler and who is responsible for the car. If everyone wants to go inside, budget for parking. If one person waits with the vehicle, have the group assemble with its bags before requesting pickup. This keeps the curb stop short and avoids splitting the group between levels.
