How Much Time You Actually Need at SLC
The rebuilt terminal is efficient and deceptively long. The walk to the far end of Concourse B is the part that catches people out.
Scaffold. These are the numbers you can only get by walking the terminal with a stopwatch. That’s the whole moat — replace every TK before publishing.
Salt Lake City rebuilt its terminal, and the result is bright, modern, and considerably longer end-to-end than the airport it replaced. Delta runs a major hub here, so a large share of the people asking this question are connecting rather than starting their trip, and the honest answer depends almost entirely on which end of which concourse you land at.
Walking times
| From | To | Walking | With moving walkways |
|---|---|---|---|
| Security | Concourse A, near end | TK | TK |
| Security | Concourse A, far end | TK | TK |
| Concourse A | Concourse B, near end | TK | TK |
| Concourse A | Concourse B, far end | TK | TK |
| Baggage claim | Ground transport | TK | — |
Walk the full length of both concourses at a normal pace with a carry-on, and time each segment. Then do the far-end-of-A to far-end-of-B leg specifically, because that’s the worst case and it’s the number people are actually searching for when they’re staring at a 40-minute connection.
Note whether the tunnel walkways were running. They aren’t always.
Security
TK — typical wait at the main checkpoint by hour of day, whether a second checkpoint exists and when it’s open, and how much PreCheck actually saves at the busy times. Early morning is the crush here; the Delta bank pushes a lot of people through at once.
Is a tight connection survivable?
TK — the airline’s official minimum connection time, and your honest assessment of whether it holds when you land at the far end of a concourse. This is the section that will get bookmarked, so be specific and be conservative.
If you have time to kill
TK — food past security worth walking for, where the quiet seating is, lounge locations and whether day passes are sold, and where the power outlets actually are.
Arriving, not connecting
TK — how long bags realistically take to appear, and how far the walk is from the carousels to rental cars, rideshare pickup, and the TRAX platform. The gap between “landed” and “in a vehicle” is longer than most people budget for.
