Delta launched nonstop service between SLC and Lima (LIM) on December 4, 2025. It was the airport’s first-ever nonstop connection to South America, and it ran daily through January 25, 2026. That was framed from the start as a single trial season, not a year-round route with a quiet winter. Checked directly against Delta’s schedule on August 7, 2026, no second season had been announced or filed, and the route currently isn’t bookable at all.

The flight itself

Delta flies the route on a Boeing 767-300ER, a widebody aircraft that’s overkill for most domestic Delta routes out of SLC but standard for a long international leg. It’s configured with all four of Delta’s cabins (Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main), and the flight itself runs about 8 hours 50 minutes southbound. That’s a noticeably longer flight than SLC’s other new-ish long-haul routes; it’s closer in length to the Seoul run than to anything in Europe.

Why it was a trial, not a launch

Delta framed this from the start as a test of demand rather than a committed new route. Lima was reportedly the top South American destination Salt Lake City travelers were already flying to via connections, which is presumably what got the route funded in the first place. Delta announced the original season roughly five months ahead of its December 2025 start. That same lead time has now come and gone for a hypothetical December 2026 repeat, with no announcement. That doesn’t confirm the route is dead, but it’s a meaningfully worse sign than silence would have been a few months ago.

What it cost, while it ran

During the active season, one-way cash fares ran from around $510, and Delta’s SkyMiles award pricing started near 52,000 miles one way. Both numbers are historical now, not something you can check against a live search, since the route isn’t currently scheduled. If it does come back, treat that first-season pricing as a rough baseline at best. A route with no second season yet has no real fare pattern to point to.

Getting to Lima right now

With no SLC-Lima nonstop currently running, the practical option is connecting through Atlanta, which runs Delta’s daily year-round nonstop to Lima (about 7 hours 45 minutes) and is Delta’s actual long-term Lima gateway. It’s a longer trip than the seasonal direct flight was, but it’s there every week of the year, not just seven of them.
