SLC to Seoul: Delta's Nonstop Flight, Explained
Salt Lake City flying nonstop to Seoul sounds like a typo. It isn't, and it's the newest, longest route in the airport's history.

Delta flies it daily on an Airbus A350-900, Delta’s newest widebody. The outbound leg, flight DL173, is scheduled at 13 hours 15 minutes; the return, DL172, runs shorter at 12 hours 40 minutes. Delta is the only airline on the route.
Why this route exists
Delta has framed this as a deliberate network move, not a novelty: it connects two of Delta’s own hub cities directly, and it plugs into the airline’s joint venture with Korean Air, which runs about 80 destinations across Asia from Incheon. Combined with Delta’s partner network, that joint venture now reaches Seoul from 14 U.S. gateways, and SLC is one of them. That framing (hub-to-hub, feeding a real alliance network) reads as a more durable rationale than pure route-map completeness, though only sustained demand actually decides whether a route this long survives past its first few years.
The flight itself
The A350-900 flying this route is configured with 32 Delta One suites (lie-flat), 48 Delta Premium Select seats, 36 Delta Comfort+ seats, and 190 Main Cabin seats, Delta’s newest and most premium-heavy widebody configuration, notable on a route this new. The 35-minute gap between the two directions (DL173 versus DL172) is normal for a route this long and comes down to which way the jet-stream winds are blowing that particular week, not a fixed rule about which direction is faster.
Fares and when to book
Delta’s SkyMiles award pricing on this route starts near 35,000 miles one way, though that number floats with Delta’s dynamic pricing and shouldn’t be treated as fixed. Cash fare patterns aren’t established yet: this route is new enough (launched mid-2025) that there isn’t multiple years of fare history to draw a real booking-window conclusion from, so general long-haul Asia advice (book several months out for the best fares) is a reasonable default rather than a route-specific finding.
What it connects to
Through the Korean Air partnership, Incheon opens onward connections across Korean Air’s roughly 80-destination Asia network, including much of Japan and Southeast Asia, without needing a separate ticket. Booking the SLC-Seoul-onward routing as one itinerary through Delta (rather than booking Seoul and a separate Korean Air ticket) is generally worth doing for the same reason it matters on the Paris/Air France route: it keeps bags checked through and protects the connection if the first flight runs late.
