Deer Valley is one of only three U.S. ski areas that still bans snowboarding, alongside Alta and Vermont’s Mad River Glen. But the bigger change worth knowing about before you book anything: Deer Valley roughly tripled in size for the 2025–26 season with a new base area, East Village, and it changes the entire “how do I get there” answer depending on which part of the resort you’re actually headed to.

Three base areas now, not one

Deer Valley has expanded to three distinct arrival points: Snow Park, the original base near central Park City; Silver Lake, reached via the Jordanelle Express Gondola; and East Village, a brand-new base area near Jordanelle Reservoir that opened the bulk of its terrain this season as part of the resort’s biggest expansion in its history. More than doubling skiable terrain via a new 10-passenger gondola nearly three miles long.

This matters for airport transfers specifically because East Village isn’t reached the same way as the other two. Snow Park and Silver Lake sit close to central Park City, off the same I-80-then-through-town route covered in the main ski-resorts guide. East Village sits directly off U.S. Route 40, and Deer Valley’s own materials describe it as roughly a 40-minute drive from the airport with no stoplights on the primary route: a genuinely different, more direct path than driving into Park City proper. If your lodging or ticket confirmation says “East Village,” double-check your shuttle or GPS route is actually using US-40 rather than routing you through town.

Parking is more accessible than the resort’s reputation suggests

Deer Valley’s upscale reputation makes people assume everything runs through valet, but Snow Park alone has more than 1,300 free, first-come-first-served parking spaces. The bulk of arrivals aren’t paying anything to park. Silver Lake has limited paid parking mid-mountain for those who want to be closer to the lifts, and East Village added roughly 1,200 new spaces of its own. If the main lots fill on a busy day, Richardson Flat Park & Ride offers free overflow parking with a complimentary shuttle running every 15 minutes during peak periods. Valet exists as a convenience option, not the default way most people arrive.

Deer Valley versus Park City Mountain

For Snow Park and Silver Lake specifically, this is a short answer: they’re close enough to central Park City (roughly a mile or two) that the comparison mostly comes down to which resort’s terrain and ticket you want, not a meaningfully different airport transfer. East Village breaks that pattern. It’s a separate arrival point off US-40, closer in practice to the Jordanelle/Heber Valley side than to Park City’s Old Town, so if you’re deciding between Deer Valley and Park City Mountain with East Village lodging specifically in mind, treat it as its own route rather than assuming it’s “basically Park City.”
