Delta is the only airline currently listed nonstop between SLC and Puerto Vallarta (PVR). SLC Airport’s August 2026 schedule shows five weekly departures — Monday and Thursday through Sunday — rather than daily service. Scheduled flight time is roughly three and a half hours. Treat the number of weekly flights as seasonal rather than fixed and check both directions for the actual travel dates.

The regular schedule vs. holiday changes

The current pattern leaves Tuesday and Wednesday without a nonstop. Holiday schedules can add departures, but that does not make the route daily across the rest of the year. A Tuesday or Wednesday trip can force a connection, while shifting one day may restore the nonstop. Compare the airfare change with any added hotel night before moving the trip.

Booking the holiday window

There is no measured SLC-PVR booking window behind a claim that a particular number of days is cheapest. For Christmas, New Year, and school-break travel, compare early because five weekly nonstops leave less schedule slack than Cancún’s daily service. A cheaper connecting flight can be rational, but compare its elapsed time and arrival hour; the nonstop preserves more of a short resort stay.

Arriving in Puerto Vallarta

PVR sits on the north side of Puerto Vallarta, close to Marina Vallarta and the northern hotel area. That is a real contrast with Los Cabos, where one airport serves two towns and a long resort corridor. But a listing labeled “Puerto Vallarta” can still be outside the city.

Match the property to the correct area before booking a ride:

  • Marina Vallarta / north hotel zone: closest to PVR.
  • Centro and Zona Romántica: south of the airport through city traffic.
  • Nuevo Nayarit: north across the state line in Nayarit, despite often being sold with Puerto Vallarta packages.
  • Punta de Mita, Sayulita, or San Pancho: separate destinations with substantially longer transfers.

Choosing airport transportation

For a city or resort stay, the straightforward options are an authorized airport taxi or a transfer arranged in advance with the hotel or a transport company. Ask for the total to the exact property, not just a generic “Puerto Vallarta” rate. If staying in Nayarit, make that explicit when requesting a quote.

A rental car is unnecessary for most stays centered on the Malecón, Centro, or Zona Romántica, where parking can be more burden than benefit. It becomes more defensible for a multi-stop coast itinerary. A shared transfer can save money for one or two travelers, but its other resort stops matter more as the destination gets farther from the airport.

Planning the first and last day

Allow time after landing for immigration, baggage, and customs before the road transfer. Avoid committing to a boat departure or fixed dinner too soon after arrival. For the return, use the airline’s international check-in guidance and add road-time margin—especially from Punta de Mita, Sayulita, or any property north of the city.

Before booking: a quick checklist

  • Does the nonstop operate on both travel dates?
  • Is the hotel in Jalisco or neighboring Nayarit?
  • Is the transfer private, shared, or priced per passenger?
  • Will a rental car actually be used after reaching the hotel?
